Lido Sim

The story of one non-player character's struggle with a vindictive creator

This game-style short film is set within the parameters of a computer screen, inhabited by a solitary non-player character.

The goggle-wearing figure's attempts to nonchalantly mooch about by the poolside are consistently thwarted by an invisible computer-user, who takes on a mischievously god-like persona as he uses the mechanics of screen windows to stretch and distort the character's surroundings.

Using the colourful and glossy visual language of video games, the film is inspired by the decline of the British lido and the population’s growing preference for indoor, simulated activities.
